Car goes over cliff, Thelma and Louise jump to safety

So, the car thing….

It turns out that the steering column is gone in the convertible.

This is a serious issue, and the road to getting it fixed is a bit circuitous. That’s a nice word for “*&%$ show”

Michele noticed something wrong as soon as she picked the car up. She dropped it at the dealer who announced it was a serious steering column issue which would cost multiple thousands of dollars to fix.

Cue all men in the vicinity expressing concern that Michele was being ripped off (granted, this does happen). The car was removed from the dealer and sent for a second opinion. Second opinion person announces it is not serious and can be fixed for less than $500. Β Joyous celebration ensues and Michele and I work over a revised itinerary.

Just as I am about to post a new schedule, the bad news comes. It is in fact the steering column. Booo!!! And! it has to go back to the dealer who now has the only available part in Canada. Hiss!!!

And, we have lost our spot in the Fixit Queue. Insert appropriate swears – you all know me – use your imagination and historical knowledge.imagesCAWLBEUI

At this point we do not know when we are getting the car back.

The trip will be abbreviated.

I am verklempt.

More to follow.

Drinking red wine tends to take the sting out of unfortunate situations…just sayin πŸ™‚

Patti, we may not make it that far. I am heartbroken. Michele says the trip can continue from Toronto next summer…. but in the meantime would you consider a trip out here next summer – it would be great to spend sometime together xo

In the words of a Martha you and I used to know–Holy Doodle!! I know it doesn’t have the same effect, but maybe it will make you laugh.

I have faith – may this be but a small blip for your Ways and Means Committee (….er….you and Michele with said wine embibed), who will consider non-traditional options to keep this show on the road!

If not, I am reminded of Pablo Neruda, the Chilean poet. When contemplating a sea voyage, he instead installed an old dory on his land overlooking the Pacific – he’d retire to his boat most evenings to enjoy some drink of choice and when he disembarked at the end of the evening, he had sea-legs to prove he had travelled some distance – if only in spirit. Adventure on!

Sorry to hear your plans are delayed! I was waiting for the stories! Wine and chocolate are a must! Let me know if you need me to deliver reinforcements!

Well, at least you have a dock. To lay on. In your verklemptness. Which I do not know the definition of but can definitely sense the flavour of. So I’m going out on a limb and guessing Edmonton has been dropped from the itinerary. *sigh* Michelle should have bought an Audi! And what the hell am I going to do with this fatted calf?

The fatted calf was the first thing I thought of…. maybe the second.
It just keeps getting more bizarre. The guy told Michele today that he could have it ready by the 9th. 0_o
I am so sad. I was really looking forward to seeing you.
It looks more and more like this is happening next year.
In the meantime, I’ll try and find a conference that can get me out that way πŸ™‚
p.s. I hear the calf is relieved with the turn of events

I am concerned about the problems of the world and the unsolved social policies. Who will solve these now? I was so looking forward to waking up to a vibrant economy, full employment, and a totally inclusive society on September 9th!!!

You are hilarious…. but so right…..
These were all issues we were going to take on from the comfort of the car. Confinement and a strict agenda could have resulted in real innovation!
